Perspective Device This work is a matter of supposition. Suppose this has meaning, what is it? Suppose this has value, where is it placed? Suppose it is difficult, when is it not? A supposition is a direct implication of a desire, or belief. I believe in weight. I believe in mass. I believe in time. I believe in effort. I have faith in questions. I desire complications. I construct associations. I demolish answers. I am a vain creature. I have limitations. I am singular. You are singular. We are not separate. This work is the space between the questions and the answers made manifest; between the subject and the object, as the subject and the object. To endeavor to make apparent what one has, not what one is given. To demystify the product, the process, the persona so as to reinvest the effort with meaning. To offer the opportunity to doubt without fear of retribution. To antagonize without belittling, to challenge without fear of failure. This work is an offering, not an imposition. My intention is for this work to occupy the space in between a physical reality and a mental awareness. A tool is a direct indication of a thought, a thought with regard to solving a problem. The problem being where we find and how we define meaning in our lives. Works of art are devices, which the viewer can use in order to measure their physical relationship to an intellectual space, a social space, and a transcendent space. Sculptures are tools designed to aid an individual in identifying meaning. Meaning is defined in the relationship between the viewers’ conceptions and perceptions. |
