What's it all about?
Enjoy a long weekend packed with lessons and supervised hands-on practice dyeing fiber and spinning yarn. A wonderful workshop for all skill levels. Novice yarnmakers can build fundamentals, while experienced students focus on improving and picking up new techniques. Everyone will go home with a huge spinning fiber stash they've dyed themselves, plus a sweet goodie bag!
You'll get the chance to practice your craft with people who share your passion. Take a full slate of mini-workshops, or just pick those of interest to you and while away your time knitting on the porch, crocheting on the swing set, or spinning in the old maple-floor gymnasium.
Classes will be taught by Adrian Bizilia of Hello Yarn, Jennifer Schermerhorn of Whirled Yarn, and Sarah Kincaid of Maisy Day Handspun (available at Hello Yarn). Bonus bonus visits and demonstrations from local fiber animal raisers Alpacas at Wildcat Hollow of Eskridge, Kansas, plus more TBA. (Last year, we also met bunnies from Little Angora House on the Prarie and goats from Laura's Pygoras.)

FAQ
What experience do I need? All levels are welcome. Complete novices can learn all the basics, while more experiened spinners/dyers can refine their techniques and enjoy the great work space.
Do I need my own wheel? We have plenty of student wheel. They're mostly simple Louet or Louet-alike starter wheels, plus Fricke wheels. If you do bring your own wheel, you'll get a $20 discount and a fiber bonus at check-in. FYI, Nikol's a Fricke dealer & Adrian's a Louet dealer, so you can order ahead and have your wheel waiting. Contact us for details.
What do I bring? Most importantly, bring yourself & a love of fiber. Optional: your wheel (you'll get a $20 discount + free fiber) or spindle, accessories, interesting fiber you want help spinning, personal fiber to dye, your own handspun yarn or items made of handspun to display in our gallery (take them home afterwards, of course), and any destashed or personal yarn, fiber, or equipment you'd like to sell, trade, or give away at the Swap & Shop (we'll set up a honor-system student store after the Swap & Shop). If you want to shop, bring your checkbook or cash.
Which airport should I use? Kansas City, MO (airport code MCI) if you want to take the shuttle. If you're planning to rent a car, you can also fly into Wichita (a little over 2 hours' drive) or Oklahoma City (about 4 hrs, and you can carpool with Caroline & John--see the rideshare page).
Note: Several regional lines service MCI, so if you're not finding good rates, check Frontier, Southwest, Midwest, etc. They're not always listed on expedia, etc.
Can I take the train? Yes. The Southwest Chief services Topeka. It arrives around 1am & leaves around 5, so you'll need to plan for an extra night on either end. But it's a very fun way to travel, and we can pick you up/drop you at the station.
How far is Harveyville? About 2 hours from Kansas City or the Kansas City International Airport, an hour from Lawrence, 40 minutes from Topeka.
If you're thinking of driving from farther way, use randmcnally.com to find your distance & travel estimates--it's the most consistent.
Can I bring a friend who is not attending Yarn School? Yes, pending availability. You'll need to request a private room ($50 additional), you may share it with a friend or spouse not enrolled in Yarn School. They'll be on their own while you're in class (we can provide suggestions, or they can just relax in your room or on the grounds), and can join us for meals for $15/day.
Please request a private room and let us know you've got a guest when you register. You'll pay the extra fees at check-in.
