DYE SCHOOL will premiere in spring 2022!
Note: DYE SCHOOL begins Thursday morning with a full day of classes, and winds up Sunday evening, including your overnight stay Sunday night.
Thursday – Sunday (includes overnight stay Sunday and breakfast on Monday)
Dye School is an intensive 4-day yarn dyeing workshop with Hello Yarn dyer Adrian Bizilia. Students will learn fundamentals and undertake several different dyeing projects to explore a range of techniques and styles. For control and time, we’ll use acid dyes (aside from a small natural dyeing bonus project). You’ll dye full-sized skeins, mini-skein sets, and blanks, not just little snippets. As you learn, you’ll build an impressive stash, going home with nearly two and a half pounds of hand dyed premium yarn, plus a big ring of bonus microskeins of all your glorious Dye School colorways!
Class size is very limited to allow optimum instruction and avoid overcrowding in the Dye Lab. We’ll have rolling stools for those who prefer to work seated, and anti-fatigue mats for those who prefer to stand.
Dye School Includes:
- 4 full days of classes
- Informational and record-keeping materials
- Premium yarn and dyes
- Use of all dyeing equipment, along with gloves, smocks, masks, etc.
- 3 yummy meals/day (omnivore or vegetarian), plus snacks
- 4 nights in shared guest rooms in former high school classrooms. Private rooms available at additional charge.
- A pattern for your miniskein combo colorway
- and a goody bag!
We’ll provide yarn and dyes for all of the class projects, plus two bonus skeins for a choose-your-own-adventure session!
REQUIREMENTS
This workshop is open to all levels. All class supplies and materials are included (as well as accommodations and meals).
If you wish to participate in optional swatching, bring needles or hooks for DK and sock-weight yarn.
If you wish, bring a notebook or Pinterest board you’ve created for color inspiration.
LOGISTICS
GETTING HERE
We’re offering a shuttle from MCI (Kansas City airport) the night before. If you’re renting a car, you can also try Wichita (ICT). If you’re driving, GPS can trick you into taking crazy, horrible dirt roads, so verify your route with our directions.

CHECK IN at 9am on Thursday. Get settled in and class begins at 10.
EARLY ARRIVAL (Wednesday): If you’re coming from afar and need flexibility, early arrival is available the night before. $60 includes your dinner Wednesday night. Check in after 5pm Wednesday evening. Keep in mind it will be a little bit crazy and a lot informal!
THE AIRPORT SHUTTLE RUNS WEDNESDAY AS WELL: Shuttle riders receive a $20 discount on their extra night fee. When you register, you’ll pay the usual shuttle rate + your discounted extra night fee.
CHECK OUT by 9am Monday morning, unless you’re staying for Rigid Heddle School. (Note: you may check out whenever it’s convenient for you–including Sunday night, if your schedule requires. )
CLASS SCHEDULE
Dye School will cover a lot of ground, but the tone is casual and relaxed. Classes will run from 10am-5pm daily, with a lunch break. We’ll have a big table set up in the lobby (much like Mitten School) throughout for classes and general gathering, knitting, etc.
Thursday
Check in at 9am, and we’ll get started around 10.
